Store Review: Two Old Hippies (Aspen and Nashville)

Based on their mutual love for the 60's Hippie culture, guitar, and music, Tom and Molly Bedell have created Two Old Hippies, a store full of exquisite guitars and colorful clothing and accessories. But it's so much more than that. There are two locations in Aspen and Nashville, and I was fortunate enough to visit the one in Nashville while in town for the 2013 CMA Music Fest.

Tom got his start in Spirit Lake, Iowa. At the early age of 14, he began to import guitars from Japan and put his family name on them. Thus began Bedell Guitars. He also sold records and booked gigs for local acts. Meanwhile, Molly was soaking up the hippie culture in California and Oregon, and her love of this colorful lifestyle has stayed with her for the rest of her life. The two of them have taken their shared love of music and the concepts of love and compassion and created a very unique shopping experience. After their kids were grown, they bought an old Bluegrass guitar and music shop, The Great Divide, in Aspen. They restored the store and opened the first location of Two Old Hippies. The store sells vintage Great Divide guitars and custom Bedell guitars as well as clothing, gifts, home decor, and accessories made by indigenous cultures from around the world. Proceeds from the sales go back to these cultures and to individual artists.

The Nashville store is located in an area known as The Gulch. As you walk through the doors, you instantly know that you're in for a treat. The walls are covered with guitars and music memorabilia, and the front of the store is home to a perfectly restored VW Hippie van.

I'd love to take this on a road trip!

As I explored the store, I happened upon a room full of the Bedell Guitars and a self-proclaimed "old hippie" happily strumming a tune. He graciously allowed me to snap some shots of him playing and also with the resident dog, Lidy Gray.

In the back of the store, there is a stage where you can catch local acts. The schedule for events (and some of their products) is located on their website at this link:

Below you can see me in one of their dresses by Doe and Ray:

I'm the one in the white dress with black leggings.

The next time you're in Nashville, make sure you check out Two Old Hippies.

Thanks for stopping by and getting buzzed!
